The canopy pictured above was designed to cover the entrance to a building.  The beautiful design serves a necessary function for most buildings.  As a wall-mounted rain shield, the canopy keeps customers from getting drenched while waiting for the door to open.

Canopies come in all sizes and can be fabricated from most metals.  A cousin of the canopy is the bay window roof which is an excellent way to distinguish your home from others.
